DEFINITION OF CLINICAL AESTHETICS
Clinical Aesthetics could be defined as "a set of non-invasive or minimally invasive clinical procedures which aims to maintain and enhanced beauty,to rejuvenate and reverse the signs of the ageing.in addition to a similar set of procedures which address the dermal effects of pathologies and injuries, (e.g. scarring and acne).
STRUCTURE
The Program consists of a Mixture of Structured Distance Learning Modules with Very Short On-Class Clinical Practical Hands-On and Inter Active Discussion ( Seminar ).
The course covers the entire spectrum of Non / Minimally Invasive clinical aesthetics with an emphasis on safe and evidence based practice.

Currently a definite gap exists in the formal education domain that provides for academically sound and scientific training programs that adhere to ethical standards. This program aims to encompass the comprehensive knowledge and skills required for successful practice of clinical aesthetics.
In order to ensure the safety and satisfaction of the needs of the customer undergoing aesthetic treatments , and the needs of industry, this program aims to:
• Meet and improve on the set academic standards for clinical aesthetics practitioners.
• Improve the quality of knowledge and skills of Healthcare professionals practicing clinical aesthetics

Although various workshops, short courses and in-house training are available on specific/selected topics related to clinical aesthetics, there is, at present, only a few accredited formal, complete, integrated programs that addresses the matter of clinical aesthetics in an integrated, complete manner.
Generally, short courses and workshops, only provide an overview of a specific topical matter relating to clinical aesthetics.
In many cases, these workshops are sponsored by pharmaceutical companies and focus specifically on identified products and brands.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
Learners may provide evidence of prior learning for which they may receive credits towards the program. Such evidence may be presented in the form of portfolios or other forms of appropriate evidence which may include, verified accounts of previous relevant work done and performance records. Such individual cases will be subject to moderation by qualified-assessors. appointed by the Awarding Institutions.
ACCESS TO THE QUALIFICATION / ENTRY REQUEMENTS
Prospective learners must be in possession of a recognized Bachelor Degree of various Health Sciences and are competent in communication and literacy skills at NQF Level 7 and also competent in the use of computer.

1. Discuss the importance of ethics and customer advocacy within the practice of clinical aesthetics as well as their importance in effective functioning as a member of a multi-professional healthcare team.
2. Apply the principles of customer confidentiality at all times and ensure the security of customer records, including clinical photographs.
3. Describe in detail the human anatomy, anatomical landmarks and related physiology relevant to clinical aesthetics.
4. Explain the relevance of pathology in the practice of clinical aesthetics and give examples of possible pathological conditions which could occur following clinical aesthetics procedures.
5. Discuss the microbiology applicable to clinical aesthetics practice and integrate microbiology knowledge and skills to ensure safe, effective clinical aesthetics practice.
6. Identify and describe relevant dermatological conditions applicable to clinical aesthetic for the effective management of affected customers.
• Range of conditions includes: inflammation, viral, fungal and bacterial infections of the skin and underlying tissue, acne, urticaria, drug eruptions, benign and malignant skin tumors and alopecia.
7. Integrate relevant psychological considerations within a holistic treatment protocol for a customer undergoing clinical aesthetics management.
8. Explain the relevance of the problem of obesity both in terms of the multi-factorial nature of the problem and the management thereof.
9. Explain the multi-factorial nature of a weight loss diet, integrate nutritional knowledge within the holistic management of obesity and formulate a basic eating plan for customers wanting to control their weight.
10. Integrate hormonal influence within the holistic management of customers undergoing clinical aesthetics management.
11. Describe the integrative, preventive and regenerative aspects of anti-aging therapy relevant to clinical aesthetics management.
12. Manage clinical emergencies, such as dyspnoea, syncope, shock, anaphylaxis, in the appropriate manner.
13. Apply research knowledge and principles to select a specific type of clinical trial , conduct research in the appropriate manner, list the relevant design features applicable to the use of a clinical trial protocol, write a Participant Information Leaflet (PIL) and present the report in the required format.
14. Describe in detail the various management procedures used in clinical aesthetic practice and include the considerations for and against the use of each.
Range of management procedures includes, but is not limited to: topical anaesthesia; sculpting; chemical peeling; laser and light treatment;; slimming and cellulite management; non-needle mesotherapy; hair rejuvenation.
15. Identify factors, including the relevant current legislation, that contribute towards running a successful clinical aesthetic practice.

The principles of integrated assessment are incorporated in this qualification to ensure that the specific purpose of the qualification is met, namely to equip clinical aesthetics practitioners with sufficient knowledge, skills and expertise to provide clinical aesthetics treatment in an integrated and holistic manner.
Competence is developed through a combination of self-study, group work and practica and workshop application. An integrated assessment approach forms an integral part of all the learning activities.
Integrated Assessment is evident through the following:
• Collecting naturally-occurring evidence, e.g., case studies.
• Assignments which collectively provide assessment opportunities of a number of Exit Level Outcomes.
• As part of self-study, various integrated work related projects, which address both theoretical and practical assessment, must be completed.
FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT is ensured through the utilization of a range of assessment methods and tools that support each other to assess total competence.
Formative assessment will take place on a continuous basis in a simulated, contextual environment during the execution of the clinical case studies. These case study tasks are both an important learning method and the primary source of evidence of the learner's competence.
Formative Assessment Methods include the following:
• Written assignments, e.g. review questions on theory.
• Practical demonstration to learners relevant to specific aesthetic procedures and techniques.
• Case studies that integrate a variety of learning outcome objectives.

Formative Assessment Methods include the following:

• Practical demonstration to learners relevant to specific aesthetic procedures and techniques.
• Case studies that integrate a variety of learning outcome objectives.
• Self, peer and subject matter expert reviews during Interactive workshops.
SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT consists of an integrated assignment. For the purpose of this assignment the learner will document various clinical aesthetics indications and present these in a Structured Form.
